Tell us about your journey to the top of this wonderful institution? Why you became an educator?
My belief in the philosophy of Swami Dayanand and my admiration for Mahatma Hansraj brought me close to DAV fraternity and on completion of my studies, I joined Darbari Lal DAV Model School, Pitampura as a Primary Teacher in 1983. School, in those days was held in a small building byMrs. S.L. Makhija as Principal. As the school grew older, school from a small house shifted to a huge multistory buildings, I also, step by step, gained strong foothold in the school and with my dedication, hardwork, sincerity, devotion to work, ready to accept challenge, attitude, eager to learn new things, leadership qualities and acceptance by children, teachers and Principal served school at various positions, viz Tr. Incharge, Examination Coordinator, PGT English, Sr. Tr. Incharge and Principal. A time came, when Mrs. Makhija retired on completion of her service, I was assigned the job of the Principal by DAV College Managing Committee on adhoc basis. But my work and my planning for the good of students, teachers, school won me the post permanently.
Reason for being an Educator – I believe that ‘Education is the process of facilitating learning, knowledge, skills, values, beliefs and habits. It enables a person to administer and execute his/her experiences/learning with utmost precision and reason. Education never ends. At every step, everyday, every moment we learn something new. Learning never stops. Knowledge is gained all time. This aspect of Education has been my inspiration. It keeps me going, fills me with wonder at every step, adds enthusiasm to learn new things, widens my horizons, zeal to deliver and pride in being an educator. As an educator ‘we reinvent ourselves, deliver, add complexity and zing’. It serves as a great stimulus and whispers ‘never to stop’, thus helped me to move from where I was to where I am today and will take me to where I want to be.
As per you views what is the role of parenting in holistic development of the child?
Parents have premium role to play in the growth and development of the child. He/she is the first teacher, ideal, role model, her/his true educator. As a gardener nurtures his garden (saplings) and brings beauty, color, fragrance in the garden (flowers & plants). Similarly parents shall nurture their child with utmost care and affection. She/he is very delicate and cannot bear any harsh treatment. There shall be no commands, demands or orders. Let him learn things on his own but be around to help him stand up again. Be a source of encouragement, spend time instead of money. Let him remain rooted to his culture, yet embrace new ideas, modernization with aplomb. Let a parent remember his actions are being watched by his child and later on will be reflected in him/her. His child is his mirror, so keep the mirror clean.
We recently got the opportunity to interview Mrs. Anita Wadehra, Principal of DLDAV Model School, Pitampura.
